10 Dead in Multiple Crashes along I-75

Here is what we know, as of now:

-10 People have been pronounced dead as a result of multiple crashes around Mile Marker 379
-21 others were treated at local hospitals Shands
-I-75 Southbound and Northbound are OPEN. I-75 and US 411 are both subject to closure.
-Best detour: U.S. 301 and State Road 27.



The six patients who were admitted through our Level I Trauma Center remain in the hospital. Of the 12 patients who came to us through our Emergency Room, four remain in the hospital.

Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Patrick Riordan says the pileups starting happening around 3:45 a.m. on I-75. Before accidents happened, the roadway was originally shutdown because of heavy smoke. At least 7 tractor trailers and 12 passenger vehicles were involved, in the original crash.

Since the original crash, at least 3 other accidents have occurred along I-75. All have occurred between mile marker 368-382, along I-75.
