The Gainesville Division of the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested fugitive Antwan Clark this morning in northeast Gainesville. Clark was wanted by the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding arrest warrant for attempted first degree murder and carrying a concealed firearm. The attempted murder occurred on 12/20/2011 and forced the University of Florida to alert its east campus because of the proximity of the shots, to the school.
The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force adopted the case due to the violent nature of the charges. During the subsequent 6 month fugitive investigation, Task Force investigators determined Clark was actively attempting to avoid arrest by frequently traveling between different cities in Florida, hiding out at several different residences, and limiting his contact with known associates.
Late last week, Task Force investigators developed information that Clark had returned to Gainesville and was staying with an unknown friend, possibly in northeast Gainesville. Further investigation revealed Clark was currently hiding inside an apartment in Gardenia Garden Apartments on NE 8th Avenue.
This morning at approximately 6:30am, Task Force investigators approached and surrounded apartment #G-2 and located Clark sleeping inside. Clark was placed under arrest without incident and booked into the Alachua County Jail on his outstanding arrest warrant.
