Sia Nyorkor

Sia Nyorkor is an Emmy award-winning Journalist who serves as Reporter and Managing Editor for Gainesville Television Network.

Prior to working at GTN, Sia worked as an associate producer at NJN Public Television & Radio for 10 years.  She contributed to a variety of programs, including NJN News,  Another View and NJN Public Radio.  Sia also worked on a number of documentaries earning a New York Emmy and CINE Golden Eagle for her work on The Race For Open Space.

In 2005, Sia won a United Nations/National Association of Black Journalists fellowship where she covered the elections in Liberia, her parents' native country. She shot, reported and co-produced, Liberian Democracy: A Journey Back Home,  a half-hour documentary about her experiences that aired to critical acclaim on NJN.

In 2008, Sia was the New Jersey Correspondent for MTV Choose or Lose Street Team '08, covering the campaign trail from out of her backpack. She vlogged, blogged and tweeted her way across the Garden state, producing hyperlocal content for MTV's channels and websites. The initiative won the team an Emmy for best Community Service Campaign.

Sia has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Indiana University's Ernie Pyle School of Journalism and a Master of Science from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Her Master's Thesis was a documentary film, 125 Franco's Blvd., that's been acquired by AfroPoP and will air on PBS and APT stations across the nation. The film recently won the Harlem Spotlight award from the Harlem International Film Festival. 

Active with the National Association of Black Journalists, Sia has served as an executive board member of her local chapter and as a mentor for student members. Sia is also a member of public service sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sia is happy to make the Sunshine state her home.  Email Sia at snyorkor@mygtn.tv
