Myra Monroe, is a broadcast veteran with more than 20 years experience covering news in Florida. A familiar face to local viewers, Myra anchored morning, noon and 10 pm newscasts, and served as Executive Producer for the ABC affiliate in Gainesville. Myra also spent several years as early evening anchor for WTXL-TV in Tallahassee and as a professional journalist and mentor in UF's College of Journalism. She's won several awards for reporting, including a fellowship from the Radio Television News Director's Foundation to study current affairs in Germany. In February, 2010 Myra travelled to El Salvador with her church to help build a well and to produce a special report on the global water crisis.
Myra was raised in Gainesville and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. She joined the Gainesville Television Network in early 2010 to help plan the launch of the news programs. "I'm very excited to be part of the GTN news team. We have an incredibly talented group of journalists here and we will work hard to serve our community."
Myra volunteers in disability ministry at her local church and served on the United Methodist National Task Force for Disability Ministry. She is married and is the mother of two children.
Myra anchors GTN News Extra each weekend on the Gainesville Television Network. Watch Saturdays at 11:30am, 6pm and 11pm and Sundays 11am, 6pm and 11pm.
